Engine for a 1986 Ford Ranger?

Right now i'm customizing my 86 Ford Ranger XLT and i want a larger engine for it. it has a tiny 2.9 liter, the stock engine, but i want a v8. i dont know what will actually fit in it because i usually tinker with chevys. im on a budget so i cant put anything huge in it. thanks
